I love ministerial corporate event photography! Every time it is a challenge. The lighting in various venues is usually awful and one has to be as unobtrusive as possible while obtaining the most appropriate images. Of course, the most important moments of the minister’s speech have to be captured. This is where I score as I’ve had many years of experience doing this kind of photography. Networking is part of a corporate function and capturing good imagery for the company’s website and brochures is very important.

I love corporate photography!
It was 3 degrees this morning at 6.15 when I set off for the University Club at UWA to do some corporate photography at a Breakfast with Stephen Smith. Now he is a private citizen and retired, he has agreed, amongst other things,  to be Vice Patron of the wonderful charity, Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA. Stephen was Minister for Defence and Foreign Affairs for six years and has had many years of parliamentary experience. His tales were funny and adroitly told. I came away thinking what a truly nice man he is. The Arthritis Foundation of WA is one of the charities I support and it’s a fantastic organisation. I am also a founding member of the Fremantle International Portrait Prize which runs a world-wide photographic competition every two years and gives the proceeds to this charity. I love corporate photography. It’s always a challenge. The light in this room at the University Club was quite low and the speaker was in front of the window which makes balancing flash a little trickier.

Cassie at GT Media called a few days ago to see if I was available to shoot Adrian Zumbo. Was I ever. You’re talking about the king of macarons here which I simply adore. He was running Zumbo Academy classes during the day at the Good Food and Wine show and this evening event was for pure fun and relaxation. My brief was to capture the fun and sexy Kenwood and Braun appliances. Not difficult to do as Kenwood’s gear is now available in primary colours and looks good enough to eat. Adriano was a delight to chat to and photograph so I had a great time. It was only as I was coming home that a few people asked me if I had garnered his autograph. Doh! Never even crossed my mind. Sorry darlings. Seriously though, look out for the macarons – they are divine.

Saturday 10th May 2014 was the fund raiser ball for Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA foundation – called 70’s Disco. Some great costumes and and inspirational stories were shared. The music was supplied by Karl O’Callaghan’s band, The Filth, who also gave their time for free. As usual (for AOWA) I photographed probono and if anyone would like to view the images and purchase any, CLICK HERE. You will have to choose Corporate Galleries and then click on the Arthritis Disco Ball logo. 15% of all purchases will go to Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA. Thank you for buying!  (If you have any problems working out the ordering system call me – 0417 874 619).Arthritis WA Ball_Abigail-Harman-photographer Arthritis WA Ball_Abigail-Harman

Just before Xmas CEDA (Committee for Economic Development for Australia) held an event at which Ita Buttrose was the guest speaker. I remember being quite captivated by her after watching the TV mini–series, The Birth of Cleo, a couple of years ago. Many of my Ozzie friends remarked about the influence she had had on their lives. So I was just so happy to find myself photographing this event and Ms Buttrose herself. Although slightly formidable, she is indeed beautiful and intriguing.
